In this video, the discussion on why PDE (phosphodiesterase) inhibitors are used in erectile dysfunction. For penile erection, there is a release of NO (nitric oxide) which is a vasodilator. NO activates guanylyl cyclase to increase cGMP which gets degraded by PDE-5. PDE-5 inhibitor preserves cGMP. Drugs like sildenafil (viagra) and tadalafil act via this mechanism.
