This video describes the procedure of the swallow pill balloon by allurion for weight loss. It is a painless, safe and effective procedure for weight loss which can help in loss of 15-20 kgs within 4-6 months. The balloon is packaged into a small capsule with a fine catheter attached to it. The capsule is swallowed by the patient in the doctor's office with some water and its position in the stomach is confirmed with the help of an X ray. The catheter is then used to instill fluid inside the balloon which then takes the shape of a large ball inside the stomach. The catheter is detached and patient can be sent back home. The balloon occupies a lot of space inside the stomach and reduces hunger and promotes satiety. This leads to a caloric deficit in the body which translates into a gradual weight loss. The weight loss continues till the balloon is inside the stomach. After a period of around 4 months, a timed valve inside the balloon opens and the fluid is expelled.
