Drugs to treat hair loss and an enlarged prostate may lead to another problem, erectile dysfunction. In a few men, the problem may be permanent. Researchers at North Western Medicine looked at data on nearly 12,000 men. Those who took Finasteride or Dutasteride for a prolonged period, had an increased risk for erectile dysfunction. In some cases, the problem lasted for many months or even years after stopping the drugs. Everyone's risks are different, so it's a good idea to consult your physician before discontinuing any medications.
