Free PDF Guide - Keto Strategy Tips 👉 Work with your doctor to monitor your medication dosage when you’re on the keto diet. For more details on this topic, check out the full article on the website: ➡️ Timestamps: 0:00 Is it safe to go on the keto diet if you’re on medication? 0:35 These are the particular conditions you need to monitor to ensure your medication is still correct 2:10 Metformin is an example of a drug you need to monitor to ensure your dosage is still correct In this video, I explain if it’s safe for you to go on the keto diet if you’re on medication. It really depends on the medication. But because keto has such a huge effect on lowering insulin, and so many health conditions are due to high insulin, the need to lower your medication is pretty high. This is particularly true for these conditions: High blood pressure Diabetes type 2 Inflammation High cholesterol Low testosterone Sleep issues Sleep apnea Poly cystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) Mood disorders such as depression and anxiety As you do keto, the effect is to make your medication stronger, so you need to ensure your dose is still correct. Be sure to consult with your doctor. For example, if you’re on metformin for diabetes, and doing keto, your need for this medication will decrease. If you don’t work with your doctor to monitor your dosage, you could end up with hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Same with blood pressure medication. You don’t want to take it if your blood pressure has normalized. Be aware that your doctor might not understand the power of keto to improve your condition. It’s up to you to ask them to check your blood sugar, blood pressure, and A1C, for example. Another question to consider is, will your medications affect your ability to get into ketosis? If you’re taking insulin, corticosteroids, prednisone, or estrogen, yes they can. Certain medications for high blood pressure and high cholesterol have a side effect of a condition called insulin resistance, which can make it more difficult to go keto. But the goal is to use the keto diet as a way to normalize your body functions so you can come off medication.
