#contrave #weightloss #obesitytreatment #weightlosstreatment What is Contrave? Contrave is a medication made up of 2 active ingredients called Naltrexone and bupropion. It is used together with diet control and exercises to treat overweight or obesity. it is strictly a prescription-only medication. How does it work? Naltrexone is an opioid antagonist and bu pro pion is a Dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. both of them work in the brain to control appetite and how the body burns energy. Before taking Contrave, you must tell your doctor if 1. you are allergic to anything 2. you have any other medical conditions 3. you are on any other medications, this includes any vitamins or supplements without a script. 4. you drink alcohol How do I take Contrave? The starting dose is usually one tablet once a day in the morning. The dose will be gradually increased as follows: Week 1: One tablet once a day in the morning Week 2: One tablet twice a day, one in the morning and one in the evening Week 3: Three tablets every day, two in the morning and one in the evening Week 4 and onward: Two tablets twice a day, two in the morning and two in the evening. The maximum recommended daily dose of Contrave is two tablets twice a day. If you have liver or kidney problems, the doctor may reduce the dosage. Take Contrave with food and Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not cut, chew or crush it. Take it at the same time every day, so you remember. Set an alarm to remind yourself if you need to. make sure you have enough medicine to last weekends and holidays. Continue to take Contrave as long as your doctor tells you to. Some people do not respond to Contrave. The doctor will discontinue the treatment if you have not lost more than 5% of your initial body weight within the first 16 weeks. If you forget to take Contrave, If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and take your next dose when you are meant to. Do not take a double dose to make up for the dose you missed. While you are using Contrave Things you should do 1. remind any doctor, dentist or pharmacist you visit that you are using Contrave. 2. reduce the energy content. It is recommended that you engaged a professional dietitian to review your diet. 3. review your treatment with your doctor after 16 weeks to monitor your weight loss. more in the video... Call your doctor straight away if you: 1. have depression and it gets worse or you have thoughts about suicide or self-harm more in the video.. . Things you should not do 1. Do not take any other medicines while taking Contrave without first telling your doctor, this includes vitamins or supplements without a prescription. 2. Do not take this medicine for a longer time than your doctor has prescribed. More in the video... Beware that this medication may cause dizziness, know how Contrave affects you before you drive or operate any machinery. Side Effects All medicines come with potential side effects. It is always a risk-to-benefit ratio that the doctor is weighing when they prescribe you a treatment. Most of the time, you won't experience it, and If you do experience any side effects, they are minor and temporary. However, some side effects may need medical attention. Some less serious side effects of Contrave are nausea, vomiting, dry mouth and constipation. You will be able to find more information on side effects on the leaflet that your pharmacist handed you. One of the serious side effects that I would like to bring to your attention is seizures. Symptoms of a seizure include convulsions and usually loss of consciousness. If you happened to have a seizure, tell your doctor when you have recovered. Do not take any more Contrave tablets until you have spoken to your doctor.
