Men who have erectile dysfunction think it's due to the medicines that they take for high blood pressure. Most causes of erection problem is actually the high BP. But, there are some anti hypertensive medicines, the ones we use to treat high BP, that can cause erection problems as well. These include beta blockers like Atenolol, diuretics like Hydrochlorothiazide etc. Unfortunately, these are some of the first line medicines that doctors start in newly diagnosed high blood pressure patients. That doesn't mean that all such medicines can cause this problem. Amlodipine, Losartan and other types of medicines used to control blood pressure do not cause erectile dysfunction. Nebivolol, is a beta blocker that also can be used without the fear of sexual problems in men.
